Crispy New Cuts: 10/24/17
D.K. – Keyboard Study
When it comes to crafting dreamy instrumental soundscapes with a glorious nostalgic touch, Parisian electronic producer Dang-Khoa Chau (aka D.K.) is one of the best in the game. Fresh off dropping the excellent Island of Dreams mini-album last year, this lead single from his upcoming Distant Images EP (out November 2017 on Antinote Records) is a sublime slice of transportive bliss, and an excellent introduction to his confident mixture of 80s-influenced New Age, downtempo, kosmiche, Balearic, ambient, and low-key house flavors.
Nai Palm – Crossfire / So Into You
It may be just for the final 80 seconds, but props to Nai Palm (of the stellar Australian neo-soul outfit Hiatus Kaiyote) for sneaking in a sweet interpolation of Tamia’s 1998 classic single “So Into You” (OG still better than Fabolous version, btw) into this sultry joint taken from her brand new solo debut album Needle Paw.
Modula – A1
Straight out of Naples, Italy, electronic producer Filippo Colonna Romano (aka Modula) is ready to summon all kinds of weirdo funk out of the Yamaha PSS 780, and he’s dedicated a whole release to the synthesizer (originally introduced in 1989) on his new EP The 780’s Chronicles that just hit record shelves this month courtesy of cutting-edge Edinburgh label Firecracker Recordings.
Broken Lip of BSN Posse – I Got Chu Gurl (Nonono)
Footwork may have originated in Chicago, but it’s distinctive sound has steadily been seeping into far reaches of the world and Spanish production duo BSN Posse have emerged as one of the standout international crews, bringing a strong R&B slant to their frenetic 160bpm rhythms. BSN Posse member Broken Lip recently unleased a slick release of fresh originals and sneaky flips, including this impressive flip of the Craig David-featuring cut “Got It Good” by Kaytranada.
