Today, for Mellow Monday, we pay tribute to our dear friend, colleague and fellow music supervisor for 18 years - Tom Killorin, who passed on a year ago, June 30th, 2018.
As I heard this song last week on Tom Petty Radio on SiriusXM, I instantly thought of Tom. Not only was he a huge Tom Petty fan but Tom worked mightily to preserve free-form radio for the public, what is referred to as non-comm, or non-commercial.
Tom’s last outpost was helping to found a low-watt station in Seattle called Space 101.1, the Vinyl Frontier. He poured his heart and soul into this effort, selflessly logging tons of nights and weekends and plenty of red tape, to finally launch, even as his health was failing.
To Tom, we salute you today with the Tom Petty classic "The Last DJ" – “who plays what he wants to play – and says what he wants to say.”
