English photographer/musician Steve Hiett is a bit of a legendary visionary artist who’s long been under the radar. Photography has been his bread and butter throughout his career. But during the early 1980s, while he was developing his own signature style of photography -- over-saturated, off-center framing, dazzling flash – he was also composing beautiful solo guitar music. These sonic experiments led to his 1983 debut album Down On The Road By The Beach, released exclusively in Japan for Sony/CBS Records. A gorgeous word-of-mouth gem, the album is getting a physical reissue this year courtesy of Melbourne label Efficient Space, and the album’s timeless beauty still sounds remarkable in 2019.
